These songs, before they were our favorite songs, were something else entirely.  Here are some songs that we thought were heard in the original form, but actually we’re borrowed big time.  Today we’ll focus on a specific genre. Hip Hop not only took it’s basis from funk / soul / blues breakbeats, but also would take chords, melodies and sometimes pretty much the whole song.  Here’s a few lesser known examples,

Before there was “Whatta Man” by Salt-N-Pepa, there was…

Before we had “Fugee La” by The Fugeees, we had…

Before we had “Doin’ It” by LL Cool J, we had “Wild Thang” by 2 Much, which in turn had borrowed from “My Jamaican Guy” by Grace Jones.

Before we had “So Fresh, So Clean” by Outkast, we had Joe Simon’s soul classic:

It ain’t where you take it from, it’s where you take it to.
