How much is your song really worth? With all the royalty equations, label expenses, marketing and publicity fees, manufacturing overpricing, legal jargon, tour support and other deadweight the music industry insists on keeping in tow, $0 could actually be a deal for some artists. It is very easy for a working artist to accumulate debt by the companies he is both employing and employed by in trying to make a living. A break even or profit situation for a major label can still be a loss for the artist. Breaking even by doing nothing saves you a bit time no? Do any of these companies make you a better songwriter?

Kate Bush is still my favorite and you should check out this New York artist Jennifer Sullivan who not only does awesome multimedia art (paint, design, video), but has her own Kate Bush Dance Troupe! (Which I would be terribly interested to attend a performance of! Or Join?) Watch this video project of when she spent a week in the woods to try replicate the feeling of Thoreau’s Walden. It’s ace.
