Genre and comparison rant

Genre and comparison rant
April 8, 2011 Phil

nobody wnats to be any of these genres with their loaded terms and nobody don’t want to be compared to any bands that they like or don’t like. NO WORTHWHILE GENRE WAS NAMED BY AN ARTIST. NONE OF THESE GENRES SOUND GOOD. NONE OF THESE BANDS WERE COMPARED TO THEMSELVES. these genres (indie pop, indie rock, anythingwave, indie anything, lo fi, mid fi, fee fi foe) are weighted and dated, the bands carved their own nitch. i want nothing to do with that. there is so much to be said for a band that’s comparisons didn’t stick or even better, one that has never been cared about enough to be compared to another band. these are the only bands that, if they can stick with it, will find their own sound. the bands and artists now a days are so willing prematurely turned into a concotion of other things, that it terribly negates the band’s actual ability to think of itself as original. if this band, p & the o’s, are compared to anything, it will be null and void. We are FOREVER in a state of discovery. FOREVER not a part of any scene, genre, movement. We are constantly working for something different, that we may never achieve. But it at least be our owned own own own sound.

i don’t want to be part of any cool vibe scene neither. i can see these people i know, hanging on or latching on to something that the people leading don’t even understand. that, my friend, is the worst. when something you are (maybe subconsciously) trying to be a part of is TOTALLY and unknowingly made up of nothing but the vapors of someone else’s ambivalence.

so the answer and solution is as always to be a strong artist who creates creates creates and digs deep and then deeper into the core and chases that nugget that gets away if you are looking for it. always in the thoughtless mindset but ready to pounce with THE WORD, THE FEELING, THE COLOR, THE THOUGHT, THE SOUND, once it has wiggled its way slowly into your mind’s open trap.
